Claude Top-up = an Official Subscription
People searching "top-up" usually miss one thing: Claude has no balance.
Claude has no wallet balance — so-called top-up is really paying for a term of the official subscription. For token-metered billing, use the API platform.
Why it isn't a wallet balance
Unlike game credits or phone minutes, a Claude subscription is a monthly/plan-based membership — there's no rechargeable "wallet balance" on the account. So "Claude top-up" in practice just means paying for a term of the official subscription on your behalf; no money is ever loaded into your account.
So how is it different from API credit
If what you actually want is token-metered API calls (your own key, custom limits), that's a different route — see the API platform. If you want the web/app membership, use proxy subscription. Don't conflate the two.
Delivery, activation and safety are covered in the official notes.
Why the word top-up misleads
It borrows from game credits and phone minutes, making people think money is loaded into an account. In reality Claude only has subscription membership with no spendable balance — so top-up really means paying for a term of the official subscription.
